Some industries have to follow a few extra guidelines in order to have their ads shown. Learn if you fall into this category!

Google is committed to providing their users with a safe and effective platform to search the internet. As a result of this, Google has taken measures to keep their users safe while on their website which include regulating some industries on AdWords.

Don’t worry. As long as you comply with Google’s policies, you should have nothing to worry about.

Regulated Industries

There’s 2 things you should know right away about regulated industries:

  1. Some content is flat-out prohibited.
  2. Some content is restricted.

The difference between the two is that prohibited content (as the name implies) can’t be advertised whatsoever. Restricted content, on the other hand, can be advertised it just has certain limitations.

Prohibited Content

Google prohibits the advertising of the following topics:

  • Counterfeit Goods
  • Dangerous Products or Services
  • Enabling Dishonest Behavior
  • Inappropriate Content

For a full explanation of each of these topics, please visit Google’s Advertising Policy Page.

Restricted Content

  • Adult Content
  • Alcohol
  • Copyrights
  • Gambling and Games
  • Healthcare and Medicines
  • Political Content
  • Financial Services
  • Trademarks
  • Legal Requirements
  • Other Restricted Businesses

Again, for a full explanation of each of these topics, please visit Google’s Advertising Policy Page.

How Does Solutions 8 Work Within Google’s Guidelines?

Prohibited Content

As a policy, Solutions 8 won’t take on work from businesses or entities that engage in business practices that can be deemed prohibited. This is true regardless of whether or not the facet of the organization that we are being asked to market is prohibited.

Restricted Content

When it comes to restricted content, the good news is that we are still able to advertise with limitations. The bad news is that Google isn’t always exceptionally clear on what those limitations are.

As an agency, Solutions 8 also has policies that we layer onto Google’s. There are some businesses that we refrain from taking on as clients, such as those in the adult content industry. We are open to working with clients in some of the other restricted areas but only on a case by case basis

Google’s policies can also change without notice. We do our absolute best to deal with these changes as they come. If you have any other questions, please feel free to hit the chat button in the bottom-right of your screen and let us know!
