We all know that a good online marketing strategy has some component of lead generation. For those of you not quite sure what all the hubbub is regarding lead generation, here’s the reason– lead gen is about converting online browsers into actual sales leads.
(Hooray! You love sales leads! We know you do, so keep reading.)
So, how do we get leads?
I’m glad you asked. Sometimes it requires some sort of action on the part of the consumer, like providing an email address, filling out a contact form, or accepting a free trial. Most importantly, you’ll need to get some kind of contact information so you can take the next step with your lead.
Here are 3 simple ways to bulk up your leads:
1. Create a white paper, ebook, infographic, how-to video or some other piece of valuable downloadable content. Every business is skilled at something, which means you have useful information you could be sharing with potential customers. Wrap up this useful information in a nice little downloadable package (like a white paper, for example) and ask the user to provide their email address (or other pertinent information) in order to download it. If your content is valuable enough, the user will forfeit his or her information to the lucky marketer – you.
2. Include a Call to Action with every piece of content. Content is important – but perhaps even more important is a clear and direct call to action with every blog, video and demo you create. A call to action is what leads the user through the funnel and into your database.
3. Send your users to a landing page. So you’ve written an ebook, you have an interested customer and they would like to download said ebook. Bring the user to a landing page that specifically addresses what the offer is all about (in this case, the ebook) and has a clear and simple form to capture the user’s information. This is how you convert this user to your spanking new lead.
The bottom line: leads equal money. More leads equal more money. So, it’s important that your company has an effective lead generation strategy to garner as many leads as possible. And once you’ve got these coveted leads, it’s your job to nurture them (we’ll talk about lead nurturing next time, so stay tuned!).
